3 Film Editing Techniques
This video would be an example of Parallelism and or Simultaneity. However, I would say that this would be closer to Parallelism mostly due to how each person and each car are moving back and forth showing how each character is reacting to the situation. In this scene specifically from the movie Austin Powers, the back car starts to shoot at the car with Powers in it. This shows the repeating of going back and forth between each car and each person. At the end of the scene you can see how the reactions of the shooting goes back and forth and soon enough the back car with the villain proves to be outmatched and the scene shoots forward to how the car flies off of the cliff.
This is another scene from Squid Game on Netflix portraying the master edit of Simultaneity. In this scene you can see the workers or guards roaming down the halls bringing some cargo further below the higher prison levels. At this same time, the prisoners are moving up and down the colorful staircases moving further and further into their doom. Specifically, the changing of each cut scene, shows how each of these things are happening at the same time just on different levels of this prison.
This would be an example of Symbolism in the Netflix show Squid Game. This is because of the actual symbols in this scene. As the kids run to the candy maker, you can see the cookie frames being certain shapes. Later in this scene you can see how those frames further relate to the future of the these characters. The star being one of the many shapes and symbols that show up on the walls of the prison. Furthermore, the example of the symbols within the prison walls and the shapes of the candy show how these two events could be connected in a way. This is shown by the widening of eyes by the main character which connects why these symbols are so important.
